CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) — A giraffe named Benito started a 40-hour road trip Monday to leave behind the cold and loneliness of Mexico’s northern border city of Ciudad Juarez to find warmth — and maybe a mate — in his new home 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) to the south. With temperatures in Ciudad Juarez reaching as low as 39 degrees F (4 degrees C) Monday, Benito set off in a crate strapped to the back of a flat-bed truck. Benito is being transported across Mexico to Africam Safari park in central Puebla state where the low temperatures are about 20 degrees F warmer than in Ciudad Juarez. So he was donated to Ciudad Juarez. At the Africam Safari park, the giraffes live in a much larger space that more closely resembles their natural habitat.

Both parties agreed to an 8% salary increase for workers, the statements said, a figure below the 10%-20% hike proposed by the union initially. The miner also agreed to pay two months salary to workers if it fails to report profits in the year, the union said. The statements noted that workers will also receive a 152 million peso ($8.3 million) bonus, divided equally among them. Authorities in Mexico found a car that a 36-year-old Hamilton, Ohio man was traveling in when he went missing in the country at the end of last year, according to officials. The body of a man roughly between the age of 20 to 35 was also found along with the car, according to the attorney general. Gutierrez went missing in Mexico in Dec. 2022 while visiting his fiancé, Daniela Pichardo, in Mexico, NBC affiliate WLWT reported. According to a preliminary forensic analysis, four bodies were found in the burial site near Gutierrez' car, three women and one man, the office of the attorney general said. Gutierrez worked for Champlin Architecture at the time of his disappearance, a spokesperson for the company confirmed over the phone.

MEXICO CITY, Dec 4 (Reuters) - A Mexican judge was in serious condition on Sunday after being shot in the violent state of Zacatecas in northern Mexico, local media reported. The shooting occurred on Saturday morning when the judge, Roberto Elias, was leaving his home, the Reforma newspaper reported. The newspaper El Universal reported that Elias is in "very serious" condition. Zacatecas has become one of the most violent regions in Mexico amid disputes between organized crime gangs for control of the state.
